In lieu of the vacancies likely to arise with the elevations of four judges to the Supreme Court, the Collegium has recommended new Chief Justices for each of the four high courts.

As reported earlier, Chief Justice V Ramasubramanian of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice Krishna Murari of the Punjab & Haryana High Court,  Chief Justice S Ravindra Bhat of the Rajasthan High Court, and Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy of the Kerala High Court have been recommended for appointment as Supreme Court judges.

Four judges from different high courts have now been recommended to replace them as Chief Justices.

To replace Justice Krishna Murari as Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, the Collegium has recommended Justice Ravi Shankar Jha, who is currently Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

To fill the vacancy created by Justice S Ravindra Bhat’s imminent elevation to the Supreme Court, the Collegium has recommended that Justice Indrajit Mahanty be appointed as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Mahanty, who hails from the Orissa High Court, is currently serving at the Bombay High Court.

Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice L Narayana Swamy, has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, to take over from Justice V Ramasubramanian.

Justice S Manikumar of the Madras High Court has been recommended to replace Justice Hrishikesh Roy as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
