Just under four years ago, then undivided Amarchand Mangaldas opened an eight-lawyer office in Chennai. The team included one Partner, Dorothy Thomas.

It has now been confirmed that Thomas shall be leaving the firm soon enough. According to our sources, Dorothy would be setting up her own independent practice.

Both Cyril Shroff and Dorothy Thomas were not available for comment at the time of publishing the story.

Dorothy joined Amarchand Mangaldas in 2012, prior to which she was a Partner at Kochhar & Co. Thomas’ exit is the second high-level departure from the firm’s southern offices. In June this year, Hyderabad Partner-In-Charge Rahul Sarella too left the firm to set up his own practice. However, the firm later relocated Mumbai Partner Anshuman Jaiswal to Hyderabad to head the office.
