The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Delhi Police and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma on a plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker Sahib Singh, who was slapped by Verma last month during a road inspection.
Singh has approached the High Court seeking police protection and an independent probe into the incident.
Justice Sachin Datta heard the matter and asked the police to file a status report.
The Court said that the case will be heard next in November.
Meanwhile, the counsel appearing for the respondents said that the plea is not maintainable.
Sahib Singh moved the Delhi High Court seeking an independen probe into his allegation that Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma slapped and assaulted him during an inspection of road construction works in West Delhi on September 27.
Singh has also sought immediate protection for himself and his family, alleging that he has received threats and intimidating messages after the incident.
He has urged the High Court to consider constituting an independent, judicially supervised inquiry committee headed by a former High Court judge to examine the allegations, CCTV footage, electronic evidence and police records.
According to Singh, he was accompanying MLA Jarnail Singh during an inspection of road construction works along the Outer Ring Road over allegations of substandard material and deficiencies in the work when Verma and others allegedly confronted him.
He says he was slapped, abused and assaulted, while his mobile phone containing recordings of the incident was forcibly taken and damaged. He has also alleged that an unidentified person struck him in his private parts.
He had submitted a complaint at Vikas Puri police station, following which a non-cognizable report (NCR) was registered under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Singh, however, has alleged that the NCR does not cover the entirety of his allegations.
