Former Chief Justice of India AM Ahmadi passes away

Justice Ahmadi was elevated to the Supreme Court in December 1988 and took over as Chief Justice of India in 1994.

Former Chief Justice of India, Justice AM Ahmadi passed away on Thursday morning at around 5am.

Justice Ahmadi was born in 1932 at Surat. He was appointed a judge of the City Civil & Sessions Court Ahmedabad in 1964 and was appointed judge of the Gujarat High Court in 1976.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court in December 1988 and took over as Chief Justice of India in 1994.

Justice Ahmadi was the son of a junior civil judge and spent a large part of his early years living in various districts and talukas. 

Some of the notable judgments of which he was a part include  Indra Sawhney v. Union of India and Ismail Faruqui v. Union of India.
