The Central government has notified the appointment of Bhargav Dhirenbhai Karia and Sangeeta Kamalsingh Vishen as judges of the Gujarat High Court.

Interestingly, these elevations are materialising nearly two years after the names were first recommended.

The Gujarat High Court Collegium had recommended these names in December 2016. The Supreme Court Collegium, vide a resolution passed in April 2018, decided to defer the recommendation.

Subsequently, in December 2018, the Supreme Court Collegium had decided to clear the same, along with the name of Advocate Megha Jani. The Collegium had stated that after carefully scrutinizing the material on record and considering the observations made by the Department of Justice, it was of the view that Karia, Jani and Vishen ought to be elevated as High Court judges.

However, Jani recently withdrew her consent to become a judge of the Gujarat High Court.
