J. Sagar Associates Mumbai Partner Manisha Kumar is leaving the firm to join Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in Mumbai, according to sources. Another JSA Partner, Gautam Gandotra, shall also be following the same path.

Both Manisha and Gautam are part of Somasekhar Sundaresan’s  team.

These are the second and third senior-level hires at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, following the departure of five partners, including Ashwath Rau.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has recently also hired JP Morgan’s Ruetveij Pandya as a Partner.

Both Dina Wadia and Cyril Shroff were unavailable for comment at the time of publishing the story.

Update: Dina Wadia commented,

“Both are part of Somasekhar Sundaresan’s very large team and some are sure to move on as all may not be able to be accommodated with other partners. We wish them well.”

A graduate of Delhi University, Manisha articled at Gagrats & Co. and later joined Wadia Ghandy in 2002. After working for close to seven years at Wadia Ghandy, she moved to J. Sagar Associates.

Manisha’s practice covers areas of Corporate Commercial law, Securities law, Private Equity, Mergers & Acquisitions and the Financial Services sector.

Gautam also focuses on Corporate Commercial laws, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity. He is a graduate of ILS Law College, Pune.

These departures come at a time when JSA has also seen a number of high-level departures at the firm.

The firm recently saw the exit of Akshay Nagpal, who left to join Indigo as Associate General Counsel. Prior to that, Equity Partner Somasekhar Sundaresan also resigned to set up his independent counsel practice.
