Several lawyers, including Supreme Court advocate-on-record (AOR) Sumita Hazarika, were detained by Delhi Police near the Supreme Court on Saturday amid heightened security arrangements ahead of protests called by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.

According to messages circulating among lawyers, at least four advocates, including two AORs, were picked up from near the Supreme Court and lawyers' chambers and taken away in a police vehicle.

One of the detained advocates alleged that the police had not disclosed where they were being taken.

"Two AORs- Sumita Hazarika and myself and two other lawyers have picked up in Vajra van by police personnel two of whom have no name tags. Don’t know where they are taking us," the message stated.

A photograph shared by the advocates showed three women seated inside a police vehicle, with uniformed personnel present.

Separate messages circulating among lawyers claimed that around 100 advocates have been detained and taken to Yamuna Sports Complex. However, the total number of detentions and the grounds for police action could not be independently verified.

This is a developing story.
