Judicial officer Gurvinder Pal Singh was sworn into office as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court this morning.

Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre administered the oath of office to Justice Gurvinder Pal Singh.

With Justice Singh's appointment, the Delhi High Court's working strength has risen to 50 judges, against its sanctioned strength of 60, leaving 10 vacancies.

The Central government had notified the appointment of Justice Singh as an additional judge on October 5.

The appointment came nearly a month after the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Singh's appointment as a High Court judge on September 10.

In its September 10 statement, the Collegium had recommended eight judicial officers (including Singh) for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court.

Seven of these names were cleared by the Central government on September 19. Justice Singh's elevation as a High Court judge was notified thereafter by the Centre on October 5.
