A street vendor at Connaught Place has approached the Delhi High Court to restrain the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) from holding protests at Connaught Place on Friday.
The matter was mentioned before a Bench led by acting Chief Justice Nitin W Sambre by Senior Advocate Sacchin Puri, who pressed for immediate interim intervention.
"This protest has to be stopped," Puri submitted, citing massive disruption to normal life, severe traffic bottlenecks, and mounting financial losses to local shop owners in Central Delhi.
The Bench noted that the Supreme Court is already seized of a bunch of matters considering the issue. It asked Puri to inform about the developments in the Supreme Court at 2:30 PM.
"Come back at 2:30 after Supreme Court hears the matter, we will consider," remarked ACJ Sambre.
The plea has been filed by one Anil Kumar Gupta. He says that he is a street vendor at Palika Bazar in Connaught Place. Gupta has sought a ban on protests in Central Delhi, including Connaught Place.
It seeks a direction to CJP to not hold any agitation, demonstration, march or gathering at Central Park, Connaught Place or at any other place which is not a designated venue.
Notably, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has called on citizens to gather with the national flag at Central Park in Connaught Place, Delhi, at 5 PM on October 16, to protest the detention of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
The call came after the two leaders were remanded to five days of judicial custody for allegedly entering Jantar Mantar without authorisation
