The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of two judicial officers as judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
A statement to this effect was issued following a Collegium meeting on September 1, 2021.
The judicial officers proposed for elevation to the High Court are:
Mohan Lal, and
Mohd. Akram Chowdhary
By another statement, the Collegium has also reiterated the names of lawyers Rahul Bharti and Moksha Kazmi (Khajuria) for judgeship. Bharti was reportedly recommended as a Judge earlier this year in March, whereas senior lawyer Moksha Kazmi-Khajuria is reported to have been recommended for elevation in 2019.
It is further reported by the Indian Express that Kazmi-Khajuria's file was returned by the Central government without stating reasons in July this year.
The Jammu & Kashmir High Court currently has six vacancies as against a sanctioned strength of seventeen judges.
