Supreme Court judge Justice DY Chandrachud tests positive for COVID-19

The suo motu case concerning management of COVID-19 issues by the Central government, which is being heard by the judge, has been deferred due to this.

Supreme Court judge Justice DY Chandrachud has tested positive for COVID-19.

A staff member of the judge had also tested positive earlier. It is learnt that the judge is recovering well.

As Chairperson of the Supreme Court E-committee, Justice Chandrachud has been instrumental in ensuring that courts across the country function virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is currently also heading the Bench which is hearing the suo motu case concerning COVID-19 issues.

He sat to hear the case via video conference on Monday, even as the hearing eventually got deferred for Thursday due to technical glitches.

The case will not be heard on Thursday now.

In April, four judges of the Supreme Court had tested positive for COVID-19, with one of the judges requiring hospitalisation for the same.
