Twisha Sharma's father, Navnidhi Sharma, on Thursday moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court to seek cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Twisha's mother-in-law and former district judge Giribala Singh by a sessions court recently.

The petition challenges the May 15 order of a Bhopal Court which protected Singh from arrest while considering her age of 63 years and her position as a former judge. The sessions court had also noted that the allegations mainly pertained to Twisha Sharma's husband, Samarth Singh.

Navnidhi Sharma's plea has not yet come up for hearing. The case is likely to be taken up for hearing by a vacation bench.

Giribala Singh has come under severe criticism for speaking against her deceased daughter-in-law in various media interviews since grant of anticipatory bail to her.

Noida-based Twisha Sharma had married Samarth Singh, a Bhopal-based lawyer, five months ago after meeting through a dating app.

Sharma's family has blamed her in-laws for the death, accusing them of persistent domestic violence and harassment. They have demanded a second post-mortem to ascertain the actual cause of Sharma's death.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by Katara Hills police station to probe the death. According to media reports, Sharma's husband and mother-in-law have been booked for dowry harassment in the case.

Additional District Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi recently rejeced the anticipatory bail plea moved by Samarth Singh, who as per the police is evading arrest. He also moved the High Court today for protection from arrest.

Sharma, a former Miss Pune winner, was married into a family well-connected to the judiciary. While Samarth Singh is a lawyer, his mother Giribala Singh – a retired judge - is currently President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
