Bar & Bench

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the State police to produce before it two persons reportedly detained in connection with the upcoming Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Delhi on October 10.

A bench of Chief Justice Alpesh Y Kogje and Justice Vivek Jain, however, also clarified that the police can make arrangements to ensure the safe return of the detainees to their family members.

“It is also open for the State to produce the corpus before the Court prior to the returnable date with the prior notice to the other side,” the Court added.

It passed the orders on Habeas Corpus petitions moved by Shardul Jitendra Buwa and Vishakha Prashant Londhe. Both of them hail from Maharashtra.

The matter will be heard next on October 13.

According to media reports, the police detained at least 30 Delhi-bound protesters at Bhopal, Itarsi and Gwalior railway stations. The protestors were travelling from Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The October 10 protest in the national capital has been called by various opposition parties and youth organisations including the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
