Former Manipur High Court Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar appointed NCLT President

The appointment will be for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 67 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Central Government has approved the appointment of Former Manipur High Court Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar as the President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

The appointment will be for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 67 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The post will be taken over by the new President within two weeks.

The NCLT has been functioning under an Acting President in the absence of a permanent President for some time.

Last August, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Central government over delays in filling up vacancies in various tribunals across the country.

A case is also pending before the Madras High Court seeking directions to make the third Bench of the NCLT, Chennai functional. The High Court had adjourned the case last month after it took note that the Supreme Court is seized of similar issues.

Recently 11 Judicial Members and 10 Technical Members were appointed to various Benches of the NCLT.
