RMLNLU wins third HPNLU National Moot Court Competition, 2022

Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University emerged as winners of the Third National Moot Court Competition, 2022 organised by Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla.

The competition was held from 28 October, 2022 to 30 October, 2022.

The winning team comprised Abhyuday Pratap, Arpit Dua and Syed Alwaz Asif.

The finals were adjudged by a seven-judege bench comprising Justices Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Sandeep Sharma, Satya Vaidya, Virender Singh, Senior Advocates Ajay Kochhar, IN Mehta, and Prof (Dr) Kulwant Singh.

The team members, while sharing their experience said,

The moot proposition revolved around constitutional and human rights law. The proposition challenged whether a hypothetical act concerning freedom of religion, the 2019 amendment to the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 are constitutionally valid or not among other issues. It gave us freedom to explore the nuances of constitutional law and human rights law and international conventions.

There were five rounds in total. Our teachers and especially our seniors played a great role in preparing us for the moot and how to carry out a meticulous research and to articulate arguments in an efficient manner. The final round was the most challenging one as we were arguing before a seven-judge bench including four high court judges, two senior advocates and one eminent professor of law. It was overall a great learning experience as it acquainted us with many complexities that senior advocates face in Supreme Court while challenging parliamentary enacted acts.

This note was shared by Campus Ambassador Sushant Kumar, student at Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow.
