The Christ Academy Institute of Law (CAIL) is a prominent law school located in Bengaluru, and is affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU). CAIL aims at moulding leaders who are intellectually, spiritually and morally upright and who will strive for the cause of justice, truth and peace.

Under the management of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) priests and guided by India’s core constitutional values, the curriculum at CAIL aims to deliver socially engaged legal education meeting the highest global academic and professional standards.

The Committee aims to provide an opportunity to the young scholars to develop an analytical and critical knowledge on various issues on constitutional design, interpretation and adjudication. This is to bring forward the new approaches by young scholars relating to the Constitution. The Committee has successfully completed its first competition on Youth Parliament Constitutional Law Debates. It helped the students to understand the procedures and the debates through which the Constitution of India was formulated.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The competition, “The Sastrarambha: A Recast to Preamble” is an opportunity for the students to revisit the history- cultural, linguistic, religious, political, social and economical- to propose the draft preamble. It will enhance real ability to look at the issue from various diversities

OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION

Drafting the constitutional text is an expert’s work. It requires not only craftsmanship which may include political, social, legal, economical, ethical and constitutional understanding of the things, but also a deep perseverance to the history and respect for diversities. Patience, endurance and tolerance are also factors. The following are the objectives of drafting the competition:

  1. To understand the significance of history.

  2. To understand the political, legal and socio-economic implications.

  3. To develop a critical understanding about the usage of the preamble in the constitutional interpretation.

  4. To develop a skill of craftsmanship.

ELIGIBILITY

The Competition is open to bonafide undergraduate students from recognized Colleges/Institutions/Universities who are currently pursuing their bachelor’s degree in Law i.e. 3-year LL.B. or 5 year Integrated or Honours LL.B. Programme with all combinations on a regular basis.

TEAM COMPOSITION

Each team shall comprise a maximum of three members and a minimum of two members. The number cannot be modified under any circumstances.

VENUE

The competition will be conducted online. Google Meet URL will be shared with the participants at the appropriate time.

REGISTRATION

The Registration process is as follows:

Teams are required to complete their provisional registration by 23:59 IST 22nd July 2022.

The provisional registration shall be done by filling up the application available on Google form.

The final registration must be completed on or before 1st August, 2022 by payment of ₹500/- per team along with an approved email from their Faculty Coordinator/Dean/Principal with the details of the participating team to be sent to CLCforCAIL@calaw.in. The email must also contain a screenshot of the payment details.

The registration shall be deemed complete only when the provisional registration form is duly filled and approved by the Faculty and received along with the confirmation of paid registration fee.

Note: The registration fee is non-refundable and no claim for refund of fee shall be entertained. College is not responsible for any technical glitches faced from participants' end.
