30 COVID cases in Jammu wing of the High Court forces J & K HC to be shut for two days

Covid 19 cases are on a rise in Jammu & Kashmir. After Srinagar wing, now even Jammu Wing of the High Court has to be shut for sanitisation due to increase cases of Covid.

The Jammu & Kashmir HIgh Court Court has notified closure of the Jammu Wing of the High Court, after officials of the Court tested positive for COVID-19.

"Urgent cases listed on 4th September, 2020 in Jammu wing of the High Court shall be taken up for consideration on 7th September, 2020, while listing of all other cases will be posted on the official website of the Court", reads the order.

"About 54 judicial officials have reported COVID-19 positive, out of them 30 positive cases have been reported from the Jammu wing alone and 24 positive cases reported from Lower courts since last two days", a senior judicial officer informed Bar & Bench.

Previously, the Srinagar Bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court was closed and had suspended its functioning for two days when a CRPF personnel had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The High Court has extended virtual hearings till September 20, 2020 in both the wings of High Courts and subordinate courts declared as Red Zone by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir besides a discretionary power to the Judges to conduct physical hearings in urgent matters.

Apart from this, there is also a shortage of space especially in Jammu wing of the High Court due to which the physical hearings would not be possible, as social distancing would be a challenge. There were cases of COVID in the District Court of Jammu where 07 Ministerial staff and Prosecuting officers reported Positive today.
