Appointments of five judges to Delhi High Court delayed after probe against one for financial misdemeanour

The Delhi High Court might get five new judges, according to highly placed sources. Four elevations are from the lower judiciary while one is the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court..IS Mehta, PS Teji, RK Gauba, AK Chawla and Sangeeta Dhingra Seghal are the five new judges who will be appointed..Mehta, Teji, Gauba and Chawla are District judges at Patiala House court, Karkardooma court, Saket court and Tis Hazari respectively while Sangeeta Dhingra is the Registrar General of Delhi High Court..The appointments have, however, been delayed due to a probe initiated against one of the five judges for alleged financial misdemeanour in relation to utilisation of money provided for purchase of laptops. Around 300 judges are under scanner for misuse of the funds provided for purchase of laptops. The Chief justice of the High Court has set up a panel comprising three High Court judges to probe into the matter. The judges under scrutiny allegedly used the funds to purchase home theatre system and TVs instead of computers. .According to this report, the names of four judges, who are not being investigated, may be segragated and cleared soon..If all five appointments go through, the strength of the High Court will increase from 36 to 41.
