Arindam Lodh assumes charge as Judge of Tripura High Court [Read Notification]

Meera Emmanuel

Pursuant to a Central Government notification dated May 4, 2018, Shri Arindam Lodh has taken charge as a judge of the Tripura High Court.

With the addition of Justice Arindam Lodh, only one post remains vacant at the High Court, as against the sanctioned strength of four judges.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended that the former Assistant Solicitor General be elevated to the Bench in November 2017.

The Collegium made the recommendation, considering Shri Lodh’s legal acumen, background, standing at the Bar and experience including his performance as Law Officer of the Central Government. The Collegium had also noted that certain complaints made against Shri Lodh, were found to be unsubstantiated and factually incorrect, before green-lighting his appointment.

The concurring Notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice last Friday states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Arindam Lodh, to be a Judge of the Tripura High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Accordingly, the Tripura High Court has intimated that Justice Arindham Lodh assumed charge of his office today forenoon. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Ajay Rastogi, who was appointed pursuant to a notification issued last February.
