Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail in the Delhi excise policy case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). .Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan. Bhardwaj said that Kejriwal is in illegal custody and the matter may be heard tomorrow (Thursday). However, the Bench said that case will be taken up on Friday. .The CBI arrested Kejriwal on June 26, while he was in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).Kejriwal was recently granted bail by the trial court in the ED case on June 20 though the same was later stayed by the Delhi High Court on June 25.Following this, he was arrested by the CBI on June 26 and remanded to CBI custody till June 29.On June 29, he was sent to judicial custody till July 12 after the CBI did not seek extension of custody..Interestingly, Kejriwal has moved the High Court directly for bail. Lawyers say that there is no bar in going directly to High Court for bail under Section 439 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The Delhi Chief Minister's plea challenging his arrest by the CBI and the trial court order remanding him to agency's custody is also pending before the High Court.
