Ayodhya: Drama on last day of hearing as Rajeev Dhavan tears documents handed over by Hindu Party

The hearing in the Supreme Court in Ayodhya case witnessed dramatic scenes today as Senior Counsel Rajeev Dhavan tore pages of certain documents handed over to him by one of the Hindu parties..The event was triggered when Senior Counsel Vikas Singh sought to place reliance on the contents of the book ‘Ayodhya Revisited’. Rajeev Dhavan objected to the same. When Singh handed over some pages consisting of pictorial maps and other pages during the course of his arguments, Dhavan was seen tearing these pages in the Court..Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi at this point told Dhavan,.“You can shred it further, Mr. Dhavan.”.The map torn by Dhavan shows the spot believed by Hindu parties to be the birth placed of Lord Ram. This map was sought to be corroborated by other documents by Singh..Not long after this, the Court threatened to rise and finish the hearing on account of questionable conduct displayed in the Court. CJI Gogoi remarked that according to the Court the arguments in the case have concluded. The parties, however, have been assigned short slots today to wind up the rejoinder arguments..During the post-lunch session, Dhavan attempted to throw some light on the incident..“The incident is going viral. But the fact is that I wanted to throw the pages away and the CJI said I may tear them.
