President of the Kerala wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), K Surendran, has approached the Kerala High Court against the ruling Left Democratic Front Government's alleging that the State is forcing government employees to participate in an upcoming protest march and demonstration before the Kerala Governor's residence [K Surendran v State of Kerala & Anr.]..The protest in question is scheduled to take place tomorrow, November 15, 2022. It comes amidst the tussle between the State government and Governor Arif Mohammed Khan..According to Surendran, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led ruling front has been engaged in a mass campaign to ensure maximum participation in the protest.He has claimed that the LDF has given directions to its allied organisations to make sure that all their members participate in the march and dharna. Beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, are also being encouraged to participate, he further alleged..In the plea moved through advocate Vishnu Pradeep, he has pointed out that the Kerala High Court has already categorically held that Government servants have no right to participate in strikes.Further, it is the duty of the government of a welfare state to protect the interests of its citizens and to not slow down government work, it has been contended."No government servant can be permitted or compelled to take part in a protests against the Hon'ble Governor who is the highest Constitutional functionary and Constitutional Head of the State," the plea said..The matter will be heard tomorrow by a division bench of Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly.
