Calcutta High Court orders Caste Certificate verification after PIL claims general category persons getting fake certificates

A bench led by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam has ordered enquiry into the caste certificates issued in the recent past after it heard a PIL alleging rampant issuance of fake certificates.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the State's Secretary of the Backward Class Welfare Department to issue circulars to all the District Magistrates instructing them to verify the genuineness of the caste certificates issued in the recent past [Paschim Banga Bouri Samaj Unnayan Samity vs State of West Bengal].
