Centre notifies appointment of 5 permanent judges, 10 additional judges to Madras High Court

The Central government has appointed 15 new judges to the Madras High Court, with eight advocates appointed as judges and seven judicial officers appointed as additional judges.

A notification to that effect was issued by the Union Minister for State Law and Justice on his X handle. 

The advocates appointed as judges of the High Court are:

1. Govindarajan Krishnaswamy;

2. Rajnish Pathiyil; 

3. Ramesh Natarajan; 

4. GK Muthukumaar;

5. Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan; 

6. Raveekumar Sankaranarayanan; 

7. Dilip Kumar Nagarajan; and

8. Ellappan Manoharan.

The seven judicial officers appointed as additional judges of the Madras High Court. They are: 

1. P Murugan; 

2. M D Sumathi; 

3. S Alli; 

4. C Thirumagal;

5. Shanmugam Karthikeyan; 

6. Murugesan Baluchamy; and, 

7. N Gunasekaran.

The Madras High Court is currently functioning with 51 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 75 judges.
