The Central government on Monday notified the transfer of Justice Sudhir Singh back to the Patna High Court from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
He had been transferred from his parent High Court, Patna, to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2023, after the Collegium recommended his transfer twice, citing the need for "better administration of justice" as the reason.
In its meeting held on May 26, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer. The same was cleared today.
Justice Singh enrolled as an Advocate in 1991 and went on to serve as Central Government Counsel. He also represented the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), served as Additional Standing Counsel for the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, and held the position of Assistant Solicitor General of India at the Patna High Court. His legal practice primarily focused on criminal and writ matters.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Patna High Court on April 15, 2015, and became a Permanent Judge on April 20, 2016. On November 2, 2023, he was sworn in as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
