[Chhatrasal Stadium murder] Sushil Kumar is kingpin, witnesses terrified of him: Delhi Police to High Court

The Delhi Police has opposed the bail plea of wrestler and Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar in the Chhatrasal Stadium murder case, alleging that he is the kingpin in the case and that witnesses are terrified of him..A status report filed by the Delhi Police said that Kumar conspired with the other co-accused, arranged weapons and men - including some dreaded criminals from Haryana and Delhi - and then abducted the victims from different areas.“Accused Sushil Kumar fled from the spot along with his associates and caused disappearance of evidence i.e., clothes, mobile phones, weapons, weapon of offence, DVR etc to screen themselves. This is a very serious case in which 18 accused persons have already been arrested so far. Investigation is still in progress to arrest the remaining persons identified in the case,” read the report..The Police further said that Kumar is a globetrotter, very influential and a high-profile person and that there is a strong likelihood that he will jump bail and influence witnesses..Kumar and his associates allegedly attacked wrestler Sagar Dhankar over a property dispute in May last year. As a result of the alleged assault, Dhankar passed away on the same day. Kumar and others were booked under Sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, among other charges. He was arrested on May 23 last year and has since been in custody.In his plea before the High Court, Kumar stated that the first information report (FIR) registered against him is a conjoint mix of assumptions, presumptions and malafide intentions. This is apparent from the fact that there was a delay in registration of FIR, he claimed.In October 2021, a Delhi Court rejected Kumar's bail. Additional Sessions Judge Shivaji Anand "accepted" the submission of the public prosecutor with regards to Kumar being a renowned wrestler who had won laurels for himself.
