Speedy trial provisions under new criminal codes would not be of use if courts lack resources: CJI DY Chandrachud

The CJI called the three-year deadline for criminal trials "a breath of fresh air" while SG Tushar Mehta said that the provision for staggered custody of an accused was anti-criminal, not anti-people.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud called for courts to be provided will adequate material resources in order to realise the goal of speedy trial under the new criminal codes.
