CLAT Expert Committee denies errors (again)? Report given to P&H HC in sealed envelope

As the cynics predicted, the CLAT Expert Committee has apparently refused to admit to errors in the answer key yet again. Those present at the Punjab & Haryana High Court yesterday were given an idea of what the Committee’s report contained when the CLAT Convenor’s counsel handed a sealed envelope to Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain..Though the findings of the Expert Committee were not openly pronounced, it is evident from what transpired yesterday in court that the Committee is in no mood to admit to the alleged errors..The High Court was hearing a petition filed by one Agrima Lailer, who had alleged at least 30 errors in this year’s CLAT paper. Speaking to Bar & Bench, Ravindar Malik, counsel for Agrima said,.“The respondent’s counsel handed a sealed envelope to the judge. The respondents stated that the Expert Committee found no errors. However, the judge pronounced in open court that one question was definitely wrong.”.The interim order passed by Justice RK Jain dated July 13 states,.“Counsel for respondent No.5 has produced report of the Expert Committee in a sealed cover. Report perused and sealed again and is taken on record. To come up for arguments on 16.7.2015.”.Errors alleged in CLAT litigations across different high courts were referred to the Expert Committee, which was due to submit its report today as per the Bombay High Court’s instructions..Two petitions in the Delhi High Court were also disposed of today. A Single Judge Bench of Justice RS Endlaw referred to the recent judgments passed by the Bombay High Court and the Rajasthan High Court, wherein both Courts had directed the CLAT authorities to refer the disputed answer key to a newly-constituted Expert Committee..Why the CLAT Convenor chose not to openly pronounce the results is anybody’s guess. Perhaps things will become clearer at the Punjab & Haryana High Court on the next date of hearing, two days from today..Attempts at confirming the Expert Committee’s findings from the CLAT authorities were fruitless.
