The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended six additional judges of the Allahabad High Court, and five additional judges of the Patna High Court, for appointment as permanent judges.
The Collegium has cleared the decks for the appointments of Justices Mahboob Ali, Rang Nath Pandey, Aniruddha Singh, Dinesh Kumar Singh – I, Ifaqat Ali Khan, and Umesh Chandra Tripathi, as permanent judges of the Allahabad High Court.
The resolution of the Collegium manned by the Supreme Court’s senior most judges states that the appointments had been made in consultation with “colleagues who are conversant with the affairs of the Allahabad High Court”.
A mention of objections raised against the nominees being recommended was also made in the resolution. The allegations were found to be baseless.
The Collegium has similarly confirmed the names of five additional judges of the Patna High Court as permanent judges.
Justices Birendra Kumar, Arvind Srivastava, Vinod Kumar Sinha, Sanjay Priya, and Sanjay Kumar, have been deemed fit for confirmation.
Justice Birendra Kumar’s transfer subsequent to his elevation as an additional judge also found mention in the resolution.
A cryptic mention that the Collegium would consider the issue in due course followed. The resolution states,
“We have also taken note of the issue of transfer of Mr. Justice Birendra Kumar (mentioned at Sl. No.1 above). The same would be considered by the Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India and four senior-most Judges of the Supreme Court in due course of time.”
