Collegium recommends appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended the appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

A notification to this effect was published on the Supreme Court website after the Collegium meeting held on August 25.

"The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 25th August, 2025 has recommended appointment of Mr. Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Judge, High Court of Bombay (PHC: High Court of Jharkhand), as Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay," states the resolution.

Justice Chandrashekhar enrolled as an advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council on December 9, 1993.

He began his legal practice in Delhi, handling both criminal and civil matters. Over his 19 years of advocacy, he appeared in approximately 3,500 cases, primarily before the Supreme Court of India, and was involved in around 140 reported Supreme Court judgments.

He served as Standing Counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. He also represented bodies such as the Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research along with various corporations and private companies.

He was appointed as an additional judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 17, 2013 and became a permanent Judge on June 27, 2014. He assumed the office of acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court on December 29, 2023.

He was transferred from the Rajasthan High Court to the Bombay High Court in July this year.
