Collegium reiterates recommendation to elevate Aniruddha Roy as judge of Calcutta High Court

Bar & Bench

The Supreme Court Collegium has reiterated its recommendation to elevate Advocate Aniruddha Roy as a judge of the Calcutta High Court.

Roy was earlier recommended for elevation by the Supreme Court Collegium in October 2018, along with (now Justice) Saugata Bhattacharya.

While Bhattacharya was appointed as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court in February last year, Roy's appointment was declined by the Central government.

Now, the Collegium has passed a statement saying,

"The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 29th January, 2020 has resolved to reiterate its recommendation dated 24th October, 2018 for appointment of Shri Aniruddha Roy, Advocate, as Judge of the Calcutta High Court."
