The Bombay High Court has clarified that live-streaming of court proceedings will take place only if approved by the presiding judge or judges of the concerned courtroom.
In a notice dated November 10, 2025, the Court said that under Rule 5.1 of the Bombay High Court Rules for Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, 2025, live-streaming is not automatic and depends entirely on the consent of the concerned judges.
The notice further states that the presiding judge(s) of each court have been designated as the “Designated Officers” under Rule 7.3, and that only they can allow access to copies of live-streamed recordings.
Those seeking copies of recorded court hearings must apply in the format provided under Schedule III of the Rules.
The High Court has also said that recordings will be stored or preserved only when specific directions for the same are issued by the Court, as per Rule 7.4.
