It has been notified that the summer vacation earlier scheduled for both Benches of the Madras High Court, as well as subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry stands cancelled until further orders, to make up for the present restricted functioning of the courts amid the COVID-19 lockdown..As stated in a notification issued by the High Court today,."... due to extraordinary situation that has emerged on account of the spread of the Corona Virus Pandemic and in view of the limited nature of functioning of the High Court due to lockdown in the State of Tamil Nadu as a result of Corona Virus Pandemic and in order to ensure full and effective functioning of the High Court, the Summer Vacation of the High Court Madras and Madurai Bench of Madras High Court from the 1st of May, 2020 to 31’s of May, 2020 stands postponed sine die subject to any decision being taken in future.Notification dated April 18..Read the Notification:.Similar notifications have been issued with respect to the subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is added that the courts would continue to function regularly during this period i.e. from May 1-31, 2020. .Earlier on April 13, the High Court had notified that it would continue to function in a restricted manner until April 30, anticipating that the lockdowni in place since March 24 to curb the spread of COVID-19 is likely to be extended. .Whereas the lockdown was originally scheduled to come to an end on April 14, the Central Government announced that it has been extended until May 3.
