[COVID-19 Pandemic] Summer Vacation cancelled for Punjab & Haryana High Court, subordinate courts

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has issued a notification intimating the cancellation of its summer vacation in light of the closure of courts effected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The High Court, as well as subordinate courts in both states and in the union territory of Chandigarh, will continue to function through June, with the present arrangement.

The summer vacation for the High Court was earlier scheduled between June 1-26.

The notification reads,

"It is hereby notified for general information that the ensuing summer vacation in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh from 01.06.2020 to 26.06.2020 (both days inclusive) stands cancelled and the Court will function with the continuation of the present arrangement of filing, listing and hearing of the cases through video conferecing, subject to the roster being prepared by the Hon'ble Chief Justice."

Many High Courts in the country have decided to cancel their summer break in order to make up for the working hours lost during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Earlier this month, after a Full Court meeting headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, the Supreme Court resolved to continue working during the summer vacation at least till June 19.
