Delhi High Court asks police to decide bank union's plea for protest site by September 28

The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi Police to take a decision by September 28 on a government bank employees' union request for a site to protest in the national capital.

Justice Amit Mahajan said that the decision should be communicated to the union.

"Respondent authorities are directed to consider the request for an alternate site to hold a demonstration by Monday," the Court said.

The Court passed the order while dealing with a plea filed by United Forum of Bank Unions Delhi State (UFBU).

Bank employees have called a 3-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, seeking implementation of a 5-day banking week. They are also seeking reconsideration of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

UFBU had approached the High Court seeking permission to hold a peaceful dharna at Jantar Mantar on September 28, 29 and 30.

The petition challenged the police's denial and delay in granting permission for the proposed demonstrations. They said that if permission to protest at Jantar Mantar cannot be given, they should be allowed to hold the dharna at an alternate location.
