Delhi High Court quashes FIRs over stone-throwing fight between neighbours, asks them to clean police stations

While quashing two first information reports (FIRs) related to a scuffle over a property dispute between relatives, the Delhi High Court has directed 24 persons involved in the case to do basic cleaning duty at four police stations in the national capital [Sagar & Ors Versus State (N.C.T. Of Delhi) & Ors]..Justice Saurabh Banerjee passed the order on September 15 after accepting a settlement arrived at between the parties, who were also neighbours.The parties had registered cross FIRs under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mehrauli Police Station in July this year. The Court has allowed petitions seeking the quashing of the FIRs, while also directing the 24 persons involved to divide themselves into four groups of six persons each to undertake basic cleaning work for three days in three police stations.The cleaning work is to be carried out on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday this week at the Mehrauli, Fatehpur Beri, Maidan Garhi, and Neb Sarai police stations..The cleaning work has to be to the satisfaction of the investigating officer concerned, the Court added. It also gave the parties the liberty to decide among themselves regarding the composition of the groups and the police station where they would undertake the cleaning duty.“Lastly, this Court applauds the generous efforts put in by each of the 24 parties involved in the present petition before this Court,” the bench said in its brief order.According to the case details, the parties who are neighbours had allegedly thrown stones at each other during a fight.
