Don't drag court into this: Delhi HC on plea alleging use of excessive force by police against CJP protestors

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday urged litigants not to drag court into matters connected to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests against the government in the national capital.

Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya made the remark in response to a petitioner's request to list a petition alleging excessive use of force by Delhi Police against the protestors on Monday.

“Don’t drag the court into all this," Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya said in response to the lawyer's mentioning.

Students from across the country and activists of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online satirical collective, had gathered at Jantar Mantar and others parts of Central Delhi on Monday to demanding accountability for repeated examination paper leaks and also seeking resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. 

The protestors had planned to march to the parliament house but the Delhi Police intervened and prevented the same.

According to reports, this led to lathi charge and use of tear gas by the police in which many protestors suffered injuries.

The petition before the Court was filed in light of the same.
