The Delhi High Court today allowed an application filed by former Union Minister P Chidambaram to bring on record certain additional information in his anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case..The Bench of Justice Sunil Gaur had reserved its order in Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea on January 25..The information mentioned in the application pertains to newspaper reports denoting that the Law Ministry has informed the Centre that sanction can be granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute Chidambaram in the INX Media case..The application filed through Advocates PK Dubey and Arshdeep Singh states,.“…it was imperative to bring the above facts on record to show that the CBI has completed its investigation in the instant case and has thereafter, sought sanction to prosecute the Petitioner”..The bail plea was strongly opposed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. He argued that the Court should allow the investigating agencies to exercise their “statutory right to arrest” so as to enable them to interrogate Chidambaram in custody..The INX Media case pertains to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media at the time when Chidambaram was Union Finance Minister. It is the case of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate that Chidambaram and his son Karti had received illegal gratification from INX Media owners, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea for the clearance..P Chidambaram was represented by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
