Collegium recommends Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He is currently serving as the acting Chief Justice of that High Court.

The recommendation was made at a Collegium meeting held on August 6.

Justice Mishra completed his B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Kirori Mal College and obtained his LL.B. from Delhi University's the Campus Law Centre.

He was enrolled as an advocate on May 8, 1993, and practised mainly on the civil, Constitutional and service side.

He appeared as arguing counsel for several statutory bodies, including NOIDA, the Ghaziabad Development Authority, the Allahabad Development Authority, IFFCO, Indian Oil Corporation and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, and also served as senior counsel for the State Government in important matters.

He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2013. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court on February 3, 2014, and was made a permanent judge on February 1, 2016.

He served at the Allahabad High Court up to July 20, 2025 before being transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where he joined on July 21, 2025.

He was appointed acting Chief Justice on June 1, 2026, following the elevation of then Chief Justice Sheel Nagu to the Supreme Court.
