Justice BP Dharmadhikari sworn in as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court [Watch Video]

Justice BP Dharmadhikari was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on Friday. The oath of office was administered by the Maharashtra Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari in an event that also so the presence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

His appointment was notified earlier this month, pursuant to a Supreme Court Collegium recommendation made in February.

Earlier he was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the High Court following former Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog's retirement.

Justice Dharmadhikari obtained his LLB from from the Nagpur University. Following his enrolment in 1980, he joined the chambers of Advocate YS. Dharmadhikari at Jabalpur. Later, returned to Nagpur to resume practice there and worked under Advocate HS Ghare. He started independent practice after Ghar was appointed a City Civil Judge.

Justice Dharmadhikari was eventually elevated as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in March 2004. He was made a permanent judge in March 2006.

Justice BP Dharmadhikari is due to retire in April this year.
