His appointment has been made in view of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog's retirement over the weekend.
Justice BP Dharmadhikari, presently the second senior most judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as its Acting Chief Justice.
His appointment has been made in view of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog's retirement. Chief Justice Nandrajog reached superannuation today.
The senior-most judge after (now retired) Chief Justice Nadrajog, Justice SC Dharmadhikari, in the meanwhile, recently tendered his resignation. His resignation came to light after he spoke about the same in open Court last week. However, the Central Government is yet to notify any response to his resignation.
Speaking to media reporters, Justice SC Dharmadhikari had informed that he is tendering his resignation as he wished to remain in Bombay, rather than be transferred as the Chief Justice of another state. Justice Dharmadhikari was in the last two years of his tenure as a High Court judge.
Another judge, Justice Ranjit V More, who follows in seniority after Justice BP Dharmadhikari, may also soon leave Bombay High Court in view of the Collegium's recent proposal to transfer him to the Meghalaya High Court. The Central Government is yet to notify its response to this proposal as well.
