Justices Farhan Dubash, Savitri Ratho emerge winners at Judges’ National Badminton Championship

The event was a collaboration between Union Law Ministry's Department of Justice and the Supreme Court of India.

The inaugural All India Judges Badminton Championship concluded on Sunday at the Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. It brought together more than 70 High Court judges from across the country for two days of competition and camaraderie.

Bombay High Court Justice Farhan Parvez Dubash won the men's singles title while Orissa High Court Justice Savitri Ratho won the women's singles.

Justice Farhan Dubash and Justice Sarang Kotwal emerged as men's doubles champions while Justices Prathiba M Singh and Justice Savitri Ratho won the women's doubles category.

Justice V Narasingh and Justice Savitri Ratho won the mixed doubles title.

The event was conceived by Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath who is a keen badminton enthusiast, and also accomplished player.

It was organised on November 29 and 30 and was a collaboration between Union Law Ministry's Department of Justice and the Supreme Court of India.

The tournament, which is expected to become an annual sporting fixture for the judiciary, was formally launched by the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

At the inaugural ceremony, CJI Surya Kant emphasised the vital role of recreation for judges, noting that the long working hours and pressures of their job make such initiatives important for mental and physical well-being.

He also joined the court for an exhibition match alongside Justice Vikram Nath. Their partners for the friendly contest were Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal, who represented the government.

A formal dinner for participants was hosted by Justice Vikram Nath on November 29.

The closing ceremony was attended by former Chief Justice of India BR Gavai along with Justice Nath.

Justice BR Gavai conveyed his appreciation to all participants and winners for their remarkable performances.

The tournament consisted of different formats, including the men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles events.
