In an interesting turn of events, the Delhi High Court was informed today that former Congress leader and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal will represent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy in his case against another BJP leader, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga..Bagga had sued Swamy for defamation alleging that Swamy, who has over 10 million followers on Twitter, put out a “false and incorrect” tweet accusing him of being jailed several times before joining the BJP.The trial court had issued summons on this suit. Swamy challenged the same before the High Court and on April 4, 2022, the High Court stayed the summons..When Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma took up the matter for hearing today, advocate Satya Sabharwal appeared for Swamy and told the Court that Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal will appear for them. He sought adjournment in the matter stating that Sibal is busy before the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench in the Article 370 case.Justice Sharma recorded the statement and adjourned the matter to October 4..Sibal and Swamy have earlier appeared against each other in several cases. Most prominently, the two have fought on opposite sides in the National Herald case.Swamy has also criticised Sibal for appearing for the Sunni Wakf Board in the Ram Janmabhoomi case.“Kapil Sibal will be defending the claim of Sunni Wakf Board against Ram Mandir for fat fee. Some Shiva Bakhts!!,” Swamy had tweeted on December 5, 2017.
