Advocates shall now have the option of wearing plain white-shirt/white-salwar-kameez of any sober colour/ saree of any sober colour with a plain white neckband, instead of dress code otherwise prescribed.

The circular issued in this regard reads,

"The High Court of Karnataka will resume limited functioning from 01.06.2020 and considering the situation created by COVID-19 pandemic, it is hereby informed that the Advocates while appearing for hearing in open Court and/or through Video Conferencing, shall, for the time being, have the option of wearing plain white-shirt/white-salwar-kameez of any sober colour/saree of any sober colour with a plain white neck band instead of regular prescribed dress."

Karnataka High Court notification

This circular comes in the wake of an administrative order passed by Bar Council of India (BCI) informing all the lawyers across the country that wearing of coats, gowns or robes is not required for the time being till further orders, in light of the threat of COVID-19.

The BCI order followed a day after the Supreme Court notified a relaxation in the dress code for lawyers appearing before it via video conferencing, in light of the medical exigencies existing due to COVID-19.
