CJI Surya Kant to deliver address at Maadhyam’s International ADR Conference in Delhi

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will deliver an address at Maadhyam’s International Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Conference 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from August 7 to 9.

The three-day event, themed “ADR Pathways to Legal Harmony”, will bring together judges, lawyers, mediators, arbitrators and international experts to discuss developments in mediation and arbitration.

The inaugural session will be held at the S Block Auditorium of the Delhi High Court on August 7. Supreme Court judge Justice Vikram Nath, Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta will also address the gathering.

Retired judge Daniel Weinstein, founder of Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS) and the Weinstein International Foundation, is among the international speakers. Maadhyam president and Senior Advocate Amarjit Singh Chandhiok will deliver the welcome address.

The remaining sessions will be held at the India Habitat Centre on August 8 and 9.

The second day will feature discussions on the relevance of ADR in commercial disputes, institutionalising mediation in India, enforcement of cross-border mediation settlements under the Singapore Convention and the use of mediation or arbitration in intellectual property disputes.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul will participate in a session on cross-border mediation. Supreme Court judge Justice Manmohan and Senior Advocate Rajeev Virmani will take part in a fireside chat on the future of mediation in India.

The final day will focus primarily on arbitration. Former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Sikri will speak on the distinction between international commercial and treaty arbitration.

Other sessions will examine the enforcement of arbitral awards, third-party funding and the harmonisation of arbitration and mediation. Delhi High Court judge Justice Pratibha M Singh and Senior Advocate J Sai Deepak will also participate in a fireside chat on ADR, artificial intelligence and legal technology.
