Ms. Heather Wallick, the former Assistant Director of Admissions and Financial Aid for the Graduate Program at Harvard Law School (HLS) has been managing a coaching and career planning practice with the goal of helping students with career planning for lawyers who seek an international career, and top-tier admissions preparation.

Ms. Wallick worked for HLS for twelve years. Before joining the Graduate Program at HLS, she worked as a lawyer and an Immigration Law Specialist focussing on USA Business and Family Immigration.

Since 2017, she has been directing and leading Wallick Global Consulting Private Limited (WGC), a thriving coaching and career planning practice, which provides support, mentoring, and capacity building to clients for their highly competitive international university admissions and financial aid application processes.

WGC has quickly established the benchmark for premier higher education career planning and academic consultancy in the Indian international education scenario and especially with regard to law.

Successes

WGC has been achieving tremendous success with their students with regular admits to the most prestigious LL.M. programs around the world.

In 2021, five of WGC’s clients were admitted to Cambridge and seven to Columbia for advanced degrees in law. Ms. Wallick has guided students to achieve admissions to the most prestigious law schools around the world including Harvard, Columbia, Cambridge, NYU, UC Berkeley, UPenn, Cornell, U Chicago, UCL, LSE, NUS and King’s London.

Apart from career planning for lawyers, Ms. Wallick provides guidance to clients and parents for their undergraduate, MS, and MBA applications and has been providing support and capacity building to her clients, many of whom have been admitted to the top 50 globally ranked universities including Princeton, Oxford, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT (Sloan), University of Chicago, Imperial College London, Northwestern (Kellogg), UC Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, University of Toronto, UT Austin, and Georgetown; however, her priority in starting WGC in India has always been to bring quality international career planning and application support services to the law LLM/SJD candidate.

Tips

“Grades matter!” There is nothing to substitute for academic excellence when seeking a seat at the world’s best law programs. Ms. Wallick finds that the most common mistake students make is that they start thinking about the application process very late. Candidates do not put sufficient time and effort toward crafting a competitive profile for their LL.M. Instead, they rush to apply and miss easy but critical points that can add holistic value to their application. One challenge is time management - while preparing publications, service and ‘extra-practice’ activities, care must be taken to balance practice responsibilities and often a very full caseload, or, for students, a full course load. “Always make your clients and coursework the priority,” she adds.

Ms. Wallick mentors from a subject matter no-bar perspective. She believes that students and lawyers should not seek “application assistance.” Rather they should seek a review of their profile and work with a mentor that can provide guidance in the earlier years of law school or practice. This internal reflection and goal setting phase will help the student understand how their performance in law school affects their application process in later years.

Ms. Wallick and her team take sufficient time with their clients to ensure fundamental understanding of the application procedures, materials, and demands. Moreover, Ms. Wallick carefully explains how submissions could be viewed by readers and evaluators in the university admission team. This is an area in which she can provide some first-hand insight from her time at Harvard Law School.

Services

Ms. Wallick has coaching packages and modules for students who are in their early years of law school to ensure they do not lose any competitive edge when competing on a global platform.

Ms. Wallick also provides her guidance to working professionals who are looking to apply and works with them in evening and weekend sessions.

Along with assisting current applicants to the Class of 2023, Wallick Global Consulting is currently interviewing candidates who need Ms. Wallick’s assistance right now or for longer-term career planning.

Please contact Ms. Wallick by completing the brief questionnaire found in the chat box on the WGC website or +91 885 111 9559.
