The Supreme Court is hearing a batch of petitions assailing the Centre's Central Vista Redevelopment project and the government's proposal to construct a new Parliament building in Delhi.

A three-judge Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna is hearing the batch of petitions.

Yesterday, Solicitor-General defended the Government's redevelopment of the Central Vista region and the construction of a new Parliament building.

He submitted that the construction of a new Parliament building has become an absolute necessity due to the stress on the present one.
