The Central government on Friday notified the appointment of eight advocates as additional judges of the Calcutta High Court.
An announcement in this regard was made by Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in a post on X.
The advocates appointed as judges are:
Aryak Dutt;
Atarup Banerjee;
Sandip Kumar De;
Partha Pratim Roy;
Sudip Deb;
Anuj Singh;
Arjun Ray Mukherjee;
Rishad Medora
The Supreme Court had in May recommended appointment of nine advocates as judges of the Calcutta High Court. However, the government has cleared only eight of those names.
The Centre has not cleared advocate Indranil Roy's recommendation in the notification issued today.
At present, Calcutta High Court has 41 judges against a sanctioned strength of 72.
