Government forms commission headed by former CJI KG Balakrishnan to study whether SC status can be granted to those converting to other religions

The three-member commission has to submit its report within a period of two years.

The Central government has constituted a three-member commission headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) KG Balakrishnan to examine whether Scheduled Caste (SC) status can be accorded to new persons who claim to have historically belonged to SC community but have converted to other religions.
