A criminal complaint has been filed before a Delhi court against web series Tandav for allegedly promoting enmity between religious groups, ridiculing Hindu religion, and targeting the Uttar Pradesh government..The complaint has been preferred by Vishnu Gupta, a founder member of Hindu Sena. .The complainant seeks the registration of an FIR against Director Ali Abbas Zafar, Producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, and Writer Gaurav Solanki, as well as actors Saif Ali Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub and Gauhar Khan for commissions of offences under Sections 153A/295A/505(1)(b)/505(2) IPC and Sections 66/67A IT Act, 2000..An FIR is also sought to be registered against Aparna Purohit, Head of Amazon Original Content, India..As per the complainant, the accused persons have, with mala-fide and criminal intention, ridiculed the Hindu religion and promoted feelings of enmity/hatred between different sections of the society. .Referring to the first episode where actor Ayub is shown as Lord Shiva, the complainant has said, ."That the accused No. 1-7 had while making the above said remarks in the Tandav Web series deliberately and maliciously passed absolutely derogatory comments to outrage religious feelings of Hindus by mocking Hindu Gods without any justification with the sole intention to promote enmity between the different sections of the society and outrage religious feelings and religious beliefs of Hindus along with the religious feelings of the Complainant.".The complainant has also alleged that the accused persons have targeted the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. ."Tandav Web series has without any legal justification shown the Police is doing illegal encounters of Muslims under the Government of Uttar Pradesh with the mala-fide and criminal intention to defame the Government of Uttar Pradesh and create a hatred atmosphere between Muslims and Hindus.".The complaint is filed through Advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh. .Follow Bar and Bench channel on WhatsAppDownload the Bar and Bench Mobile app for instant access to the latest legal news.
